Ford Puma Gen-E: Blue Oval’s entry-level electric SUV spotted

Electricity Ford Puma E generation has been spotted testing in Europe again, before heading to Australia to replace the small petrol-powered SUV.

Ford Australia has announced it will axe gasoline Leopard lion in february, ignore Upgrade model revealed a few days later in Europe, and the company decided to only bring its upcoming Puma Gen-E electric vehicle (EV) to showrooms instead.

There’s no specific timeline for when the product will be available in Australia after its global launch later this year, however based on previous timing, we can expect it to be available in Australia as early as 2025.

The latest spy photos show that the shape and size of the car appear to be similar to the petrol-powered version.

As expected from an electric car that doesn’t require the same cooling as a gasoline-powered car, the Puma Gen-E doesn’t have a traditional grille, although there is a small air intake at the bottom of the bumper.

At the rear, the car lacks an exhaust pipe, however the exterior bodywork of the Puma Gen-E does not seem to have changed much compared to the petrol model.

When the facelifted Puma was launched earlier this year, it featured new front and rear LED headlights (with optional matrix LED headlights), but the cabin saw more significant changes.

The digital instrument cluster grows by 0.5 inches to a 12.8-inch display, the 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen is replaced with a 12.0-inch display, and a new two-spoke steering wheel is fitted.

We don’t yet know the powertrain details for the Puma electric vehicle, and unlike Ford’s other European electric SUVs – the Explorer and the upcoming Capri – it won’t be underpinned by Volkswagen’s MEB architecture.

It’s understood the Puma Gen-E will be based on a souped-up version of the petrol-powered Puma platform, with the necessary modifications to accommodate the electric motor and battery pack.

As previously reported, it may borrow technology from related companies. E-Transit Expresspowered by a front-mounted electric motor that produces up to 100kW of power and 290Nm of torque.

More details about the Ford Puma Gen-E will be revealed when the car launches later this year.
