For a February 1 flight from JFK to Honolulu, Google Flights shows two cheap options. The first is a Delta flight that departs Hawaii at 9 a.m. and costs $479; the other is a Hawaii flight that takes off at 10 a.m. for $489. Both flights are direct.
However, if you choose a Delta flight, the only return flight available to New York that will keep fares low is the Hawaii flight departing at 4:55 p.m. This flight returns to JFK on Feb. 8, because So you have a weeklong vacation in Honolulu.
Keep in mind that because these two flights to and from Honolulu are operated by two different carriers that do not have any codeshares, you must book separately on the Delta and Hawaiian websites.
Booking tickets on two separate websites can seem complicated, but the process is relatively seamless. When you click the Google Flights link to book your flight, simply clicking on two sites – Delta and Hawaiian both take you to the checkout page for each individual ticket.
These tickets are for the airlines’ basic economy class options. Neither Delta nor Hawaiian allows passengers to choose seats or change their flights to basic economy class.
While the underlying economy may be limited, it offers very low fares. Also, in this case, the flights between JFK and Honolulu are direct flights, so you don’t have to deal with any flights either. According to Google Flights, the $479 price tag for these two flights is considered low, so it’s still worth the action.
