Have you ever come across a rescue dog online that you immediately wanted to adopt, only to find out that the dog is too far away from where you live? That’s what happened to a family in Baltimore when they discovered Patrick the Chihuahua.
Patrick was abandoned at the age of 9 after he lost his sight and hearing and began to develop other medical problems. These kind people want to open their hearts and homes to an elderly dog in need, but have a big problem: Patrick lives at a shelter in Dallas, Texas, and they live in Baltimore, Maryland.
A Southwest Flight Attendant Volunteers To Go Away
All that stopped Patrick from being with a loving family was the distance of 1,300 miles. Fortunately, Dallas Pets AliveTexas nonprofit receives Premium Chihuahua, works with Southwest Animal Transport Team (SWATT) to transport homeless animals to second chances in other areas.
SWATT is comprised of Southwest Airlines employees who volunteer their time and in-flight benefits to help relocate small dogs and cats. This group saves lives by bringing homeless pets from overcrowded areas for a better chance of rescue.
Transporting animals across the country can be a complicated process. If anyone can know how to cut the red tape, it’s someone who works for an airline.
Jonathan, a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, is one of the dedicated volunteers. Based on a statement from Southwest AirlinesJonathan “used his flight time and benefits to get Patrick from DAL to BWI and help unite him with his new family.”
Together, Jonathan and Patrick made the 3-hour trip to Baltimore, where the puppy’s new parents eagerly awaited their arrival.
“Just look at the excitement of his new PAWrents in the photo! We are excited for his new beginning,” SWATT Facebook page shared on May 11, 2022.
Thanks to Jonathan’s completely selfless actions and the personal hours he spent with him, an abandoned dog now has a new family and a new home.
“Thank you Jonathan for taking care of such precious goods!!!” Dallas Pets Alive commented on Southwest’s Facebook post.
Patrick is thriving with his new family
Patrick may be blind and deaf for the most part, but he’s still a happy dog. He now has two human parents and two canine siblings in Baltimore.
Also responsible for this heartwarming ending is the one who raised Patrick before he could bring Jonathan to Maryland.
An update on the Premium Chihuahua has arrived a note written from Patrick’s point of view (obviously by his person). The note describes the puppy’s content but also feels grateful to the adoptive mother in Texas who gave him a chance.
“Dear foster mother,
Thanks for the trip of my life. Literally. Never in 9 years have I expected to fly and fly into the arms of my new family. My life across the country was unbelievable. I have 2 furry roommates and the most incredible parents. I can feel how much they love me. Leaving you was hard but you gave me a second chance in life and I will never forget.”
