Fisker Ocean deliveries begin in Europe — six months into production

Fisker Inc. revealed last week that it has delivered its first Ocean electric SUV to a customer — almost six months after the manufacturer signed the contract. Magna starts production of models in Austria.

Fisker said the first delivery, the launch version of the Ocean One, attended by President and CEO Henrik Fisker, was to a customer in Denmark. That handover took place at a Fisker facility in Copenhagen. Then, on Monday, Fisker confirmed Germany’s first “vehicle registration” at the opening of facilities in Munich.

Fisker has said that the delay is due to the vehicle homologation process, with full US certification yet to come, despite recent Bloomberg The report alleges that the EV startup is facing a series of software-related failures. Fisker developed Ocean in an accelerated two-year time frame.

All Ocean One Launch Edition Top-spec Extreme-spec versions start at $68,999, accelerate to 60 mph in a claimed 3.6 seconds, offer an innovative rotating infotainment display and offer a claims 440 miles of WLTP . rangewhich Fisker says is the highest driving range of any battery-powered SUV ever offered in Europe.

That’s from a 113 kwh battery pack—40 percent more battery capacity than the Tesla Model Y Long Range—so Ocean hasn’t made any high claims about EV performance.

Fisker has made a potentially game-changing announcement for the segment it plans to use interchangeable batteries from US startup Ample in 2024. That partnership will target fleet use, at least initially, but it could help Fisker enter a market where most electric vehicle makers, with the exception of China’s Nio, have not been able to see activity on a large scale.

The company asked for $5,000 per vehicle to bolster pre-orders, and Henrik Fisker noted that many customers did this without ever seeing the Ocean in person let alone test drive it. .

Fisker also discussed the Flexible Rental program for Ocean—just $379 a month plus a $2,999 activation fee with no penalty. Fisker has not clarified whether they intend to exploit the US Commercial Vehicle Credit to subsidize its EV rental.
