Toyota has announced updates for its Mirai hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) in Japan, including more safety tech and some minor interior changes.
The updated model will be released on December 18, 2023 in Japan. We’ve contacted Toyota Australia to confirm if these updates will come Down Under.
It features the latest Toyota Safety Sense system, with Proactive Driving Assistance which detects objects on the road and will provide “gentle” braking or steering support.
Other safety features offered on the Mirai include pre-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, Lane Tracing Assist, Parking Support Brake and Plus Support Brake, which “prevents sudden starts and accelerations caused by pressing the wrong pedal or pressing [the] pedal too much”.
Toyota also includes Lane Change Assist, adaptive high-beam, road sign detection and blind-spot monitoring.
Other updates include the introduction of digital key connectivity, wider availability of the 12.3-inch infotainment display, and a new 64-colour ambient lighting system.
Toyota hasn’t detailed any powertrain updates with the 2024 Mirai so it’s expected to carry the same 1.24kWh lithium-ion battery, three hydrogen tanks, a fuel cell and a 136kW electric motor.
Locally, the Mirai is offered to government and fleet buyers only.
