There’s a hint on what kind of content people will see in Final Fantasy XVI, when the ESRB rating appears. It is assigned an “Adult” rating, recommending it for people over 17 years old. In addition to the expected descriptions involving violence, such as noting that characters will swear and there will be blood, it also notes that there will be sexually explicit imagery. The description provides more details on what the latter part of that will entail.
In particular, it seems that some of the places Clive is going will have brothels. Two of the descriptions refer to “partially nudity” and “sexual” themes, and the ESRB summary refers to the type of place that would appear.

This is an action role-playing game in which the player takes the role of a enslaved prince (Clive) on a quest to find his missing brother. From a third-person perspective, the player explores a fantasy kingdom, completing various quests and engaging in battles against enemy troops and fantasy creatures (e.g. trolls, orcs). . The player uses swords and magical attacks (e.g. fireballs, light attacks) to kill characters in melee combat. During battle sequences, the player can perform cinematic finishing moves/attacks by following on-screen prompts. Battles are fast-paced, accompanied by crash sounds, cries of pain, and loud explosions. Blood spatter effects often occur when the character is slashed and killed. The cutscenes depict additional violence and gore: one character’s hand is severed by a sword; a guard had his throat slashed with a knife; a character is stabbed through the chest; the shoulder of a prisoner was stabbed and twisted by the interrogator’s blade. The game contains some sexual content: a character petting and tying a man to a bed; mentions prostitution—the sound of sexual moans in a brothel; dialogue such as, “I would be happy to recommend you…as long as I can afford it” and “…thanks for your service.My room is right upstairs. ” Some characters are depicted with part of their breasts and buttocks exposed.The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the game.

Final Fantasy XVI will release on PlayStation 5 on June 23, 2022. It will be dedicated to the console in about six months.
