The Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker expansion is out now, with lots of bunnies flying to the moon. That is, if they can successfully login. The server has been overwhelmed since early access started last week and the thirst for hairy friends in maid outfit simply won’t absolve. Not only did the long login queue persist and it now appears properly, but there were also a lot of errors in the process making the wait even more frustrating. Thankfully, an update is rolling out today that will fix those server errors, increase server capacity, and make the login process a bit smoother.
Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida has been dealing with the game’s login issues for a long time. blog post. He said that they are planning to “maintain all of the lobby servers as soon as possible” to resolve the error. However, the maintenance period has yet to be established. It’s set to last about 30 minutes, and if you’re logged in, it won’t affect you. However, players will not be able to make new logins during this time.
And after today, maintenance across all Worlds will be underway to resolve server failures. Yoshida says this will require “all servers to be offline and is estimated to take around four hours to complete”. We also haven’t been given a specific time for this maintenance, although he does say that they will provide an update soon.
As for specific error codes, Yoshida said the team has plans to deal with them as well. They implemented an update that increased the maximum number of players in a queue from 17,000 to 21,000, which nicely combats the 2002 bug. Then there’s the 4004 error, that nasty bug that puts you back in the queue, as soon as you get to the front. The fix is actually done, but they still need time to check if it’s working properly. Plus, there might be a lot of things they haven’t addressed yet, so they’re planning on making some tweaks during lobby server maintenance.
Finally, bug 3001 has been identified, and Yoshida said a fix is being added to the maintenance schedule today. This is happening because the server has allowed players to misuse server capacity in the past, and while the repair process is sorted out, they will need to monitor and fix it out of hours.
I haven’t actually had a chance to play Endwalker yet, mainly because I’m in hols, but also because I’m still playing through A Realm Reborn. I haven’t even gotten to the first expansion yet.
