FIM suspends Russian and Belarussian athletes and officials
The FIM has taken the decision to publicly condemn Russia’s act of aggression against Ukraine, and as a result of that condemnation, Russian and Belarussian athletes and officials will no longer be able to participate in motor events due to FIM punishment.
FIM will also cancel any FIM events, meetings or races that are taking place in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and, if applicable, move FIM events, meetings or races to another country.
Finally, the FIM also recommends that all affiliated members and continental federations, such as MotoAmerica, take similar measures to prohibit Russian and Belarussian drivers from racing at their events.
“We sympathize and stand in solidarity with all those who are suffering as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and remain in close contact with our associate member in Ukraine (FMU), ” FIM President Jorge Viegas said. “I would like to thank the members of the FIM Board of Directors for deciding on these measures in the interest of sport and peace.”
“FIM, together with promoters and organizers, has taken action on this matter and canceled the FIM competitions scheduled in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.”
“The decisions announced today are consistent with the recommendations and statements of the International Olympic Committee, tailored to our sport.”
“The FIM family is following developments in Ukraine with great sadness and hope for a peaceful and speedy resolution.”
