Some may have admired this war for its social impact. I? I like the Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano match because it’s a high-paying bet. And when I started thinking about the best match of 2022, this gem was the first one that popped into my head. For Talyor-Serrano it’s not just a back-and-forth, it’s a seesaw battle where the warriors are all the best in the business. Throw in the undisputed women’s lightweight title and a critically acclaimed ESPN live broadcast from Madison Square Garden that’s sold out and you’ve got it all. dictionary.
The potential problem, of course, is that fights that have all the elements that make up a classic end up being short-lived – and for good reason. Mayweather-Pacquiao, for example, probably wouldn’t be a classic even if these two men had knocked each other out in the upper hand. After all, style makes or breaks fights. However, the styles of Taylor of Ireland and Serrano of New York are perfect for each other. However, it is the sheer bloodiness and bravery of the boxer’s performances that really make this fight stand out.
Taylor showed Serrano how good she was in the beginning. Soon, however, there is no doubt that the defending champion will enter the match of her life. Sure, it looks like Serrano can carry all night. However, beaten and bloody, Taylor was still there. After the final bell rang at the end of the tenth inning, it became clear to the viewers that they had just witnessed a fight. And although Taylor eventually walked out of the ring with a decisive victory, it’s safe to assume most would still be satisfied if the decision were made for Serrano – or if the match was even considered a draw. . It was one of those rare fights where any of the referee’s results were acceptable (For the record, I think the referee’s nod should have gone to Serrano).
Sadly, a rematch has yet to be made. Maybe one person never will. However, Taylor and Serrano have left enough of a gift for 2022, which is why ‘their’ is definitely the fight of the year. There are plenty of good bombings in 2022, but none done on such a high scale when so much is at stake. Taylor and Serrano delivered a crowning moment for women’s boxing, but their bout was a world-class bout by any standards. This definitely lived up to expectations.
