Fifty years after the 1973 oil embargo crisis, there is no US policy on energy independence – Watts Up With That?

The US continues to increase its energy dependence on China for “green”, and on OPEC and Russia for oil.

The 1973 oil embargo was imposed by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other Arab oil-producing nations in response to the United States’ support of Israel during the Yom Kippur War.

The embargo resulted in a sharp increase in oil prices and shortages of fuel for the military, aviation, ships and vehicles in the United States and other countries, as well as shortages of petroleum products.

Few people can remember the long queues at gas stations as one of the most visible effects of the oil embargo. In some cases, people have waited hours to refill their jars. Oil shortages also lead to price increases and many people are forced to make sacrifices to save fuel.

The 1973 oil embargo was a momentous event in American history. It led to a recession in the United States and other countries. It also led to thoughts about a necessary energy policy in the United States. The United States began to develop alternatives to oil and electricity, such as solar and wind power.

President Richard Nixon played a key role in the construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which transported oil from Prudhoe Bay on Alaska’s North Shore to the port of Valdez. Nixon signed into law the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Authorization Act in 1973, and he worked to overcome environmental and political opposition to the project. The pipeline began operation in 1977 and has since transported more than 15 billion barrels of oil.

President Richard Nixon delivered a speech on U.S. energy policy on November 7, 1973, in which he outlined a plan to reduce national energy consumption and urged American citizens to follow the lead. his lead to achieving energy independence. In his speech, Nixon acknowledged that the United States was facing an oil crisis due to the American economy’s demand for fuel and crude products, and he blamed the The crisis was caused by a number of factors, including the Arab oil embargo, the growth of the US economy, and the country’s continued dependence on foreign oil.

Now, 50 years later, not a single Nixon administration has done anything to establish a policy that will make America energy independent from another embargo disaster. We are talking about a 50 years of management from Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton, Bush, Jr., Obama, Trump, and now Biden.

EQUAL World War I and Second World War historians Russia, China, and OPEC all know, the country that controls minerals, crude oil and natural gas controls the world! They all know that there is no substitute for fossil fuel product dominance in the near future, even for a longer period of time. To believe that it is possible to convert to electricity from renewable energy from products produced from fossil fuels and act accordingly is suicide for humanity. like former Congressman Don Ritter of Pennsylvania wrote It is a “real existential threat.

Today, President Biden and California Governor Newsom still don’t know that wind and sun only generate electricity. Neither Biden nor Newsom could identify a product that wind and sun could produce for humanity. And worse yet, there is no backup plan to replace all petroleum-based products and fuels!

Biden is campaigning to get rid of American oil and Newsom, by continuously reducing oil production in the state of California, Newsom’s individual energy policies continue to force California, 4th largest economy in the world, is the only state in the contiguous Americas that imports most of its crude oil energy from abroad. That dependence, through shipping from foreign countries for the state’s crude oil energy needs, has increase crude oil imports from 5% in 1992 to nearly 60% of total consumption today. California’s growing reliance on other countries, like Saudi Aramco, is a serious national security risk for the US.

Today, both Biden and Newsom campaign to go green with electric vehicles, wind and solar for power generation. Through incentivizing tax incentives and subsidies to go green, they are providing financial incentives to China, which has controlled the supply chain of minerals and metals to go green, adds to our total dependence on China to achieve America’s green goals.

During the 1970s, Nixon also took steps to increase domestic energy production. He opened more federal lands for oil and gas drilling, and encouraged the development of new sources of electricity, such as solar and nuclear power. He also founded the Energy Research and Development Authority (ERDA), which is responsible for the research and development of new energy technologies.

Nixon’s energy policies were not without criticism. Some argued that his policy was too focused on conservation and not productive enough. Others argued that his policies were too costly and that they would harm the economy. However, Nixon’s energy policies were generally successful in helping the United States weather the energy crisis of the 1970s.

Here is a list of some of President Nixon’s energy successes in the 1970s:

  • Open more federal lands for oil and gas drilling
  • Established the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1970
  • Established the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 1970
  • Established the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in 1970
  • Established the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in 1972
  • Signing of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Authorization Act of 1973
  • Established the Energy Research and Development Authority (ERDA) in 1974
  • Passed the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975

These 1970s agencies were created to deal with some of the challenges facing the United States at the time, including environmental pollution, occupational health and safety hazards, and consumer product safety. The creation of those agencies has helped improve the quality of life for Americans and protect the environment.

Today, The US is offering tax incentives and subsidies to go green at all costs, while implementing policies to remove oil from the country. there is no backup plan for the supply chain of oil products which is the foundation of the economy. Instead of achieving energy independence, the US continues to increase its reliance on China for the “green”, and Russia and OPEC for the petroleum products our economy requires.

No energy independence policy, God help America!
