FedEx on Tuesday suspended express freight services in the country due to staff shortages as cases of the omicron variant of the coronavirus increased.

The delivery company said it is suspending FedEx freight within the economy, including its two-day FedEx and three-day FedEx freight services.

FedEx added that international economy cargo pickup services, which had been suspended previously, resumed on Monday.

Last month, the company warned that increased cases of the omicron variant had caused staff shortages and delays in in-flight shipments.

Severe winter storms across the country and staff shortages forced some US airlines to cancel flights last month.

The number of coronavirus deaths in the US rose by at least 2,266 on Monday to a total of 890,049 from 887,783 the day before, according to a Reuters tally.
