One of the unfortunate realities of existence is that you don’t get to choose your parents. And no matter how that particular situation plays out for you, you’re stuck with them for life—or until the courts get involved. If one of your parents raised you go-kart track in your backyard, though, you definitely won the parents lottery. Sadly, as reported by The DriveA Maryland dad’s attempt to do something fun for his son angered neighbors who demanded the racetrack be taken down.
While it’s great for anyone to have their own go-kart track, it’s especially important because the owner’s son is a professional go-kart racer who hopes to become a professional racer one day. It’s great that his dad can do it for him. Unfortunately for the owner, he didn’t follow the permitting process to install the track, and his neighbors were furious. Court records show the owner purchased the property in 2016 and claims to have invested at least $100,000 in the construction of the track. He has since applied for a conditional use permit allowing him to use the track for personal use, promising that his son will only use the go-karts during agreed-upon hours. However, if the track fails to pass its next review, it will have to be demolished.
Neighbors are reportedly concerned that the track will be used for more than just practice, and that it hasn’t been designed to take into account local wetlands. Oh, and there are apparently rumors that the owners plan to install a helipad if the go-kart track gets approved. Okay, so there may be more to this track than meets the eye. We can’t really say who’s right or wrong here, but it will be interesting to see how this case goes in court.
