Faster Tesla V4 superchargers are coming to cut charging queues in NSW

Tesla is launching its latest Supercharger in Australia.

It is installing new V4 Superchargers at various locations in New South Wales.

Tesla says they are more convenient to use than the existing V3 Supercharger, which has a longer charging cable.

While the V4 Supercharger continues to offer the highest charging speeds of up to 250kW like the V3 units, Tesla claims this capacity will increase to 350kW in the future.

They also have the ability to receive over-the-air updates.

While the new V4 superchargers are being installed, the following charging locations will be temporarily closed:

  • Blaxland: June 4-24, 2024
  • Campbelltown: June 4-7, 2024
  • Wagga Wagga: June 18-20, 2024
  • Wollongong: June 18-20, 2024
  • Yass: June 4-24, 2024

The first V4 supercharger opened in March 2023 in Harderwijk in the Netherlands.

Tesla is busy opening up its Supercharger network to owners of vehicles of other brands. This started out as one pilot program in the Netherlands in 2021.

Accessibility comes at a price, with non-Tesla owners paying slightly higher amounts than Tesla drivers.

As of August 2023, 30 of the 63 Supercharger stations in Australia can be used to charge non-Tesla electric vehicles.

Tesla is committed continues to expand its Supercharger network in Australia despite recent layoffs and says projects currently under construction are continuing to be completed and brought online.
