Ex-Stablemate Newgrange Ruined Faces in Native Divers
Bob Baffert Trained out of money fight an old stable friend in Phil D’Amato-trained Newgrange of six horses, $150,000 Native Shares (G3) on November 27 at Del Mar.
Newgrange—winner of three of four starts when he first ran for Baffert, including a few graded shares—takes third place and wins two starts for D’Amato and ownership new after he was acquired for $325,000 from ELiTE Sales for the July Fasig-Tipton Sale for Racehorses. He is currently racing for owner David A. Bernsen, Little Red Feather Racing and Rockingham Ranch.
His score came on November 6 at Santa Anita . Park, where he sped a mile in 1:35.72 taking the second-level option claimant by 5 1/2 the length under Ricky Gonzalez, who was back in the irons on Sunday. One Violence 3-year-old foal Newgrange won 4-0-1 in six starts with a deposit of $609,334. He was not tested on Sunday’s 1 1/8 mile ride.
Similarly, Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Defunded also won at Santa Anita, taking the Great Back (G1) stake on October 1. The 4-year-old son of Called in is 4-3-1 in 12 starts with an income of $518,100.
Edwin Maldonado is on the 125 lb. high weight, spotty five pounds. for 3 year old Newgrange.
Baffert also started longshot Azul Coast for the ownership of Defunded.
