Knowing that every unfashionable trend will eventually come back, I kept my faith over-the-knee boots even after the style was dubbed “out there” a few years ago. I was hoping that a few celebrities would dare to wear it controversial shoe trend another day, catalyzing its return. And that’s a good thing I did because, as I predicted, over-the-knee boots is heading back.
While I used to spend months without finding a spare pair-high boots on anyone, let alone a celebrity, I’ve been seeing them everywhere lately. For a previousBAFTAs event hosted by Chanel, Emma Watson wore a pair from a nearly sold-out collaboration between Jimmy Choo and Mugler. After the award show, Pam & Tommy Star Lily James was seen wearing a pair of mint green Roberto Cavalli boots to a party afterwards. And that’s just for the last 72 hours or so. Many supporters of this trend include Irina Shayk, Kim Kardashian and Dua Lipa.
But it’s not just celebrities. During fashion month, nearly every designer includes at least one pair of over-the-knee boots in fall/winter collection 2022from Bottega Veneta and Max Mara to Michael Kors and Khaite. Street style stars outside of the show also frequent this style, including Caroline Daur and Courtney Trop. Suffice to say, over-the-knee boots have made a major comeback, whether you’re ready for their return or not.
