As Danny Garcia strolled around his massive mansion, he soon encountered countless gold ornaments.
Although Philadelphia has fond memories of his world titles at 140 and 147 pounds, the 33-year-old would be displeased if his career came to an abrupt end. Garcia rest assured, will only come in the form of another title. This time, at 154 pounds.
As he continued to think about weight gain, Garcia came to believe that regardless of the world-class names taking over the junior middleweight category, his skill set was one above all else.
“I feel better than everyone at 154 years old in a recent self-made video,” Garcia said.
While Garcia had no intention of tiptoeing around the 154-pound scene, Erickson Lubin became interested in testing Garcia’s theory sooner rather than later.
“Danny Garcia says he can beat all 54-pound athletes,” Lubin said on his social media page. “I am delighted to welcome him to the team.”
Lubin, 26, has been successful in rebuilding his image over the past few years. Since losing in the first round to unified group 154 Jermell Charlo in 2017, Lubin has returned to the drawing board.
The result of his resets and backs, has been six straight wins. Most recently, the Florida-born tennis player waged a six-round fight with former champion Jeison Rosario. As they both get their fair share of success, Lubin roughly and abruptly stops his man halfway through the competition earlier this year.
As a direct result of his win, Lubin now occupies the top spot in the WBC sanctioning body. Despite his lofty status, Lubin seems willing to risk shooting a world title to get Garcia in the next ring.
