The winner between me and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis becomes the face of boxing
Ryan Garcia (22-0, 18 KOs) believes the winner the fight between him and Gervonta Davis became the ‘Next Face of Boxing’.
Garcia was at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn to see ‘Tank’ failed Rolando Romero after six rounds on May 28 and lose bet $20,000 for Errol Spence Jr in the process.
Any notion of a super light match happening would have vanished if Garcia hadn’t defeated Javier Fortuna on July 16 at Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles.
Both boxers had the opportunity to speak at yesterday’s kick-off press conference with the topic of the fight between Garcia and ‘The Tank’ Davis never far away.
“I want the “Tank” Davis next,” said the 23-year-old.
“I know that ‘Tank’ is a big boxer and so am I. Whoever wins that fight will be the next face of boxing.”
Fortuna (37-3-1 26 KO), who is ten years older than Garcia and has nearly twice as many fights, says his opponent is not qualified to beat him and is eagerly anticipating a fight undefeated star in his backyard.
“Ryan is a minor fighter. He has no ability and no talent to beat me. I hope he’s ready.
“Ryan’s pace doesn’t frustrate me. I know how to remove that from him. I have the experience to do that. You will see in the night of the battle. You will see my strength. I’m looking forward to hitting him at his house.”
