Eminem added a big hit to his place in the music game on Tuesday. He leads RIAA history. The RIAA has announced “73.5 million new Gold & Platinum Program certifications” for artists. These certifications make Eminem the most awarded artist in the singles category. He has also, along with six other musicians of any genre or era, earned more than three Diamond Album Awards.

“These awards recognize Eminem’s unwavering commitment to his craft and the enduring connection he has forged with his fans over the past twenty years,” said CEO and President. RIAA Mitch Glazier said.

Super Bowl Performance

His new piece of history comes less than a month after his Super Bowl championship performance. At the time, Eminem made headlines when he appeared on his knees during the performance – now the protest symbol popularized by Colin Kaepernick on NFL team fields. However, according to the ‘New York Post’, the NFL denied talks about any dispute with the rapper prior to the show.

The 15-minute program also featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige and surprise guest 50 Cent. The NFL’s annual segment was back in the headlines recently when Snoop Dogg revealed that Jay-Z instructed the NFL to either have performers stick with their brands or he wouldn’t partner with them.

With these new certifications, the RIAA says Eminem has cemented her place as “one of the most successful artists in history”. His total RIAA awards are now 227.5 million. To date, Eminem has received 166 million single certifications and 61.5 million album certifications.

As you may already know, the appropriate artists and reps must apply for certifications as they are not automatically updated. The RIAA started counting digital sales in 2004 and added on-demand streams to their count in 2013.

Among his huge list of wins is an Academy Award for his song ‘Lose Yourself,’ which appeared in the movie ‘8 Mile’. Based on ‘Deadline,’ The song was the first hip-hop song to win an Oscar.
