Single The annoying aspect of owning a skateboard is transporting a pair of 1.7 meter long boards with sharp metal edges uphill without causing damage to yourself, the skateboard, innocent bystanders, pants. your shirt, your car, your travel companions or your general sense of decor.
The simple fact is that most of us don’t live anywhere near a snowballed mountain resort. And while a lucky number may be close enough to drive to one, the rest of us are forced to choose train or plane when it comes to fixing that winter sport. And for skiers serious enough to turn down rental options, this means fixing those unwieldy boards.
The almost universal hatred of carrying skateboards around, Larry David even joked about coming up with a solution. But while his idea of skis “screwing together like a button in a swimming pool” may seem ludicrous, Slovenian brand Elan, with 75 years of skiwear manufacturing experience, takes it all seriously. well, went and did something remarkably similar with its new product Travel skateboard. These are the world’s first mountain skis that fold in half when you’re not using them.
Now, this is no small feat. By far, mountain skis are a solid board that won’t break because integrity, along with flexibility, is a huge part of what makes them work. If you start cutting them in half and sticking what is essentially a complicated hinge in the middle, things can go wrong when you’re in the middle of a trading field. None of them are likely to be welcomed warmly.
Fortunately, Elan has been on the cutting edge when it comes to skiing innovation. In 1993, it created SCX, or “SideCut eXtreme.” Instead of going straight down, the SCX skateboard is narrower in the middle and wider at the end, allowing for elegant, fast, and deep turns. These easy to ride “carved” skateboards are a giant and at the time, went a long way to combat the loss of interest in skiing as snowboarding appeals to young people. And, boy, they did.
Know when it’s urgent
Wishing not to make the same terrible mistake twice, 28 years later, Elan has not one but seven patents on these new things. Award Winner Travel folding skateboard. How do they work? The ski track is made whole, then cut in half to ensure the perfect match. Obviously, mass production of “half skateboards” will never work out. Four tough steel hinges are then attached to the center of each ski, showing that this important party trick is double. The lanyard, integrated as part of the ski track, rests on a sheet of carbon-reinforced plastic that, once unlocked, rotates on a shaft to connect the Voyager’s two halves. This rigid carbon sheet is then locked into place using special clamps.
