Easily create impressive portraits on a budget

We photographers love gear. If you’re like me, you probably have a corner (or a basement) filled with modifiers, filters, lenses, lights, and more. The truth is that we don’t need too much expensive equipment to produce impressive results and in my latest video I show you how to create Rembrant-style portraits using a flash without a flash. branding in a small modifier.

For this tutorial, I used Yongnuo Speedlite for Canon cameras, one Generator Yongnuoand a Joe McNally 24 “Ezybox. I used the white back wall of the studio as the backdrop, and since I was a few feet in front of it, the white wall was turned gray in the photos without having to use colored paper as a backdrop. grey. In this tutorial, I also demonstrate how simply rotating your object’s head left or right creates a completely different look without having to move the modifier.

When I was a beginner, I remember feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of learning how to create portraits with studio lighting. The number of modifiers, strobes, constant lights, mounting systems, and other options are confusing, so I opted to use the camera flash off and experiment with it before diving in. into any expensive flashing lights. I think many of us start this way, so chances are you have at least some of these gear lying in your gear graveyard ready to experiment. I hope you enjoy this video!
