Dyson’s regional air-purifying headphones will cost $950

If you live somewhere with a lot of air pollution, or just eager to prepare for a backward world where you have to cover your ears and shut your mouth to the outside world, Dyson area may be for you. The device — which combines a pair of headphones with a face-protecting air purifier — isn’t on sale yet, but the company has announced how much the Zone will cost when it hits shelves. Soon, this Daft Punk ball gag could be yours only $950.

Dysonbetter known as a vacuum cleaner rather than a fashion accessory manufacturer, has invested a lot of time and effort in this wearable face clip. While it may seem like a pandemic-inspired concept, the Zone has actually been around for over six years. Dyson has made it clear that doesn’t mean this is a Covid protective device. Then you might ask, what’s the problem? The zone aims to specifically filter air pollution, not viruses, and is targeting people living in cities or countries where rampant air pollution is almost inevitable.

Masks may be more prevalent in Western countries now than they were before the pandemic, but the region is still likely to be seen as an exception. Whether Dyson or anything else technology heavy mask manufacturers—being able to convince the public to adopt their wearable is unlikely. Especially given the exorbitant price tag and the fact that it seems everyone just got home to open your mouth to cough in public again.

Here are some other developments in the world of consumer technology.

Put Google Chrome on diet

The most widely used internet browser is a huge resource. However, Google Chrome will soon receive a update with a pair of new modes that allows you to streamline the amount of power and RAM it consumes.

Google is implementing two separate resource saving modes: Memory Saver and Energy Saver. The former will reduce memory usage in all the tabs you’ve opened but haven’t clicked on for a while. This way, background tabs won’t passively eat up memory while you’re completely focused on something else. (Though you probably should clean up your tabs.)

Power Saver mode goes one step further. When it detects that your computer’s battery has dropped below 20 percent, it deactivates background tabs and also pauses visual and video effects on the web pages you’re visiting.

Game (Possibly) Over

In January of this year, Microsoft Announce it has been purchased video game industry giant Activating blizzard. It’s a big deal set to give Microsoft control of powerful brands like call of duty, World of Warcraft, guardand Diablo. Now, the US Federal Trade Commission is trying to prevent that deal from passing.

The FTC is suing Microsoft to stop it 69 billion USD purchased, citing antitrust concerns about consolidating so many game franchises under one company. Microsoft has been on a game studio buying spree over the past few years, have been Skyrim and Fall out Bethesda developers in 2020.
