Dyson Supersonic Nural hair dryer review: Fast drying and new smart accessories

For me, a dryer lives and dies by its diffuser, and I’ve never seen one like this, in fact two diffuser. In “diffuser mode,” it looks like any diffuser you’ve ever seen, with prongs to get right to the roots for drying and helping add volume. Dyson says this style is best for more textured curls and curls.

Turn that prong off to use “dome mode.” Instead of pushing the air out, it creates a vortex of air inside the dome so that the air rotates around the curls to dry them. It has a lengthening and strengthening effect on curls and waves. For my hair, they are best used together and I think many curly types would benefit from both. I dry the roots and coarser underlayers with a regular diffuser, then move on to curling lengthwise, focusing especially on the damaged upper curls that need a little more care to shape .

You’ll notice a few minor visual changes compared to the first Supersonic. The light changes color based on the heat setting, turning blue for cool temperatures, yellow for low temperatures, orange for medium temperatures, and red for high temperatures. It makes it look a bit more fun but also a fun visual cue to quickly check which settings you’re using. My favorite new addition, however, is the clear back panel that houses the settings, giving you an inside look at some of the internals. As one Big fan of clear 90s technology, I want more of this all the time. Dyson, if you’re reading this, people want completely transparent hair tools with candy-colored cords.

Placing most of the controls on the back of the barrel is a smart move (as with the original). Most dryers put the buttons right where your hand is holding the handle, so you can accidentally change the setting while just trying to hold it above your head. Here, the power switch and cold shutter button To be on the handle, but out of the way.

Supersonic Nural has some unique smart functions that make the hair drying process a little easier. Scalp protection mode uses a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor and infrared rays to detect when the dryer comes close to your head, automatically reducing the temperature to 131 degrees F. Although it only works with some Accessories are included, such as a lightweight air attachment, styling concentrator, and smoothing nozzle, but that means you don’t have to fiddle with settings when going from roots to hair.
