DxO announces new camera and lens configurations for Photolab 6 and 369 Optical Modules
In the July update, DxO will release 369 new Optical Modules.
What is PhotoLab 6?
PhotoLab 6, is a comprehensive raw processing solution and it’s something I’ve been using for a while because superior results compared to Lightroom and others. Also available from DxO Labs is PureRAW 3, a raw image preprocessor that incorporates noise reduction.
There’s also Nik Collection 6, a popular set of creative plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom Classic and now Affinity Photo. In addition, they also publish DxO ViewPoint that allows photographers to achieve what they claim to be geometric perfection in images. Then there’s the popular DxO FilmPack which also offers authentic renderings of vintage film stocks.
What do the new 369 optical modules do?
DxO’s lab-created Optical Modules are unique in that they apply lens sharpness by measuring the performance of each lens from center to periphery and at all focal lengths within the zoom range. Meanwhile, other software packages apply a single general correction. Modules download every time you open a photo with a different combination of cameras and lenses.
The accuracy of the data contained in this module is why it is a popular program with professionals. The software precisely eliminates chromatic aberration and intelligently answers lens vignetting taking into account different focal lengths, thus allowing the photographer to keep more of the image in the frame image; programs like Lightroom often apply unwanted cropping.
