Dunker prevails in the SS300 final to touch the trophy with one hand
ASBK 2022 – Round 6 – Phillip Island
The third and final Supersport 300 encounter was taking place under sunny skies on Sunday morning at Phillip Island but a heavy amount of rain fell overnight and so the track surface, though completely Completely dry on most tracks, but perhaps a bit green for this eight lap match. There are also some strong winds in certain parts of the circuit to further complicate things.
Henry Snell took the early race lead against Cam Dunker, Hayden Nelson and Taiyo Aksu but Cam Dunker took the early race lead in round two as the trio started their breakout, Dunker championship lead ahead of Nelson and Snell. The second group consisted of Cam Swain, Sam Pezzetta, Taiyo Aksu, Glenn Nelson and Brodie Gawith.
As the race progressed, the top three continued to trail the second group. Dunker was ahead of Hayden Nelson and Henry Snell and by half a race the trio had nearly two seconds in the chase.
Cam Dunker then really started to outpace Nelson and Snell to make the race his own.
In the final game, Dunker had 2.4 seconds to Hayden Nelson but then Aksu, Swain and Snell clashed and all lost in the fourth round. It looks like Aksu may have injured his arm in the fall.
Dunker was the overwhelming winner from Hayden Nelson and Sam Pezzetta.
Dunker now had a hand and a few fingers on the Dunlop Supersport Championship trophy when Glenn Nelson was dropped from that game, which means Dunker will lead Nelson by 60 points in The Bend next weekend.

On Sunday, both SBS and Stan Sport will air a 13:00-15h00 highlight package that replays Australia’s opening two Superbike and Supersport races, before broadcasting the weekend’s final Superbike encounter live. We believe that the Supersport 300 category will not be broadcast on TV.
