Driver P tried to evade police while driving with four children who were not wearing seat belts in the car
A P-plate driver has been issued with multiple infringement notices after being caught driving with four children without seatbelts and a faulty seatbelt after trying to avoid a police checkpoint.
At 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, Nepean Road Patrol Officers were conducting random on-site testing on Kingsway in St Marys when they saw a green Toyota Camry make a U-turn across two solid road markings to avoid the testing site.
When the police stopped the car, the driver presented a temporary P2 driving license, however they did not present a green P license plate as required by law.
Upon further inspection, police discovered two children not being buckled in the rear footwells and two others being improperly buckled in car seats.
Police also found the driver’s seat belt was defective.
As a result, the driver received multiple violation notices, totaling $2,868 and 14 demerit points.
In New South Wales, P2 drivers have a demerit point limit of seven before their licence is suspended. The state’s transport department can also refuse to renew a licence for three months.
NSW Traffic and Road Patrol is reminding motorists that no matter how short the journey, it is important that all children and passengers are properly buckled up.
