Driest and wettest days in Seattle history

July 29 is meteorologically the driest day of the year in Seattle.

On July 29 (Monday), an unusual rain system is forecast to move into central and western parts of Western Washington.

Result? The wettest day on record was the driest day of the year climatically at Seattle Tacoma Airport.

You will tell your children about this day.

Consider the record-breaking rainy day in SeaTac on July 29 (see below).

The wettest day was 0.17 inches in 1993.

The NOAA/NWS composite system is predicting about 0.25 inches of rainfall on Monday, although there are some changes to the forecast.

The UW High-Resolution Forecast System is predicting very wet weather Monday and early Tuesday morning in western Washington, with rainfall totals as of 5 p.m. Tuesday exceeding 1 inch in the mountains and about 0.5 inch around SeaTac.

What a record breaking!

The high-level Central European cumulative rainfall forecast for the same period is similar (below).

Several daily rainfall records will be announced that day.

What about temperature?

As you might expect, the weather will be much cooler than normal, with highs only reaching the mid-60s in the western lowlands. Here is the forecast for the temperature anomaly relative to normal as of 5 p.m. Monday for the surface air temperature forecast for Central Europe.

Oh my. Most areas will be at least 10F cooler than normal and some locations will be 15F and above. Eastern WA will be a bit cool.

My pro tip for Monday. Find a sweater and an umbrella.
