Local authorities are investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding a starving dog found locked in a kennel at an abandoned dog daycare center in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The staff at British Columbia SPCA was shocked to see the dog almost boneless when it was brought into the shelter. His hair grew too much, and when they shaved off his faded fur, they could see almost every bone in his body.
It’s unclear how or why the dog, now named Gator, was left at the doggie daycare, but authorities are looking into the cruel incident. While Gator is facing many health issues, he is expected to make a full recovery with some TLC and additional veterinary care.
Gator was found in a kennel covered with urine and feces – and another dog was found dead there with him. SPCA officers said his living conditions were appalling.
“He wouldn’t have survived another day if he hadn’t been found while he was there,” BC SPCA officer told Richmond News.
While Gator was found numerous on the doorstep of death, his caretakers say he was lovable and sociable. Despite what he’s been through at the hands of everyone, Gator can’t have enough of them.
Jodi Dunlop, manager of BC SPCA, said: “You would think Gator would be changed by what happened to him, but he is such a lovely person. “He was so grateful to be saved and completely loved the people and care. He has a passion for life and a will to live! ”
After being alone for so long, Gator enjoys spending time with her carers at the SPCA. He is receiving medical attention for malnutrition, an abscessed ear, and grade four dental disease. Gator care is estimated to cost around $6,000 — and people far and wide Fundraising goal exceeded close to $46,000.
The additional funds will help the SPCA cover the medical costs of other animals in care. While an investigation is ongoing, the rescue team confirmed that a person with an interest has been identified in the case.
After the rescue team posted about Gator’s medical fundraiser On Facebook, dozens of people commented on the sweet dog’s story. Gator has received a lot of interest from potential adopters, who are patiently waiting for him to be ready to adopt in about a month.
“So grateful and grateful that this little miracle boy was found and rescued,” one commenter wrote. “Sick-minded people who once chose to give up such a living and wicked creature! I wish happiness and a life full of health and lots of love to this sweet soul! “
