When Andrea and her husband decided to adopt a dog, they knew they wanted to give a loving home to a Pit Bull. Despite the negative stigma surrounding the breed, they had heard of their loving and loyal nature. Their search led them to Morty, a Pittie who had been through a lot but was ready to find a forever home.
Andrea and her husband learned that Morty was from North Carolina, where he had been kept outside on a chain. He bore a permanent reminder of his past: a deep scar on the left side of his neck. Despite his rough start, Morty quickly stole their hearts, and they knew he was the one.
When Morty first came home, he lacked manners and didn’t know how to play with toys. He jumped a lot and even chewed up a few household items. But with patience, love, and training, Morty gradually learned to behave and fit into his new home. It took a few months, but the progress was evident.
Morty formed a powerful bond with Andrea’s husband, who works 24-hour shifts at a fire station. Morty knows when he’s coming home and eagerly runs to greet him at the gate, with his beautiful brown eyes and floppy ears expressing his excitement. Those ears, in fact, are what people often comment on the most. They’re big, floppy, and seem to have a mind of their own.
Interestingly, Morty seems to prefer human friends over canine ones. He can be a little unsure around other dogs, but he loves people. Whenever someone is nearby, whether it’s the mail carrier or a stranger at a coffee shop, Morty believes they’re there to see him and wants to say hi.
Morty is incredibly in tune with his family’s emotions. If his mom is down, the sweet dog is always there to lift her spirits. He brings his mom a great comfort and Andrea couldn’t imagine life without him. Andrea often feels down about the discrimination Pit Bulls face. Morty is a prime example of why this stereotype couldn’t be further from the truth.
Morty’s journey from a difficult beginning to a chaotic shelter, and finally to a loving home with Andrea and her husband is a testament to a dog’s resilience. Despite not knowing them, Morty trusted his new family and shows them nothing but love. Andrea is grateful that he felt comfortable enough to give them a chance, and their lives have been forever changed by Morty’s unwavering love.
