With nearly 1,000 handicraft stores nationwide, Hobby Lobby is a favorite stop for many crafters when planning a new project. But if you want your dog to come along for some fun shopping, you might be wondering: Does Hobby Lobby allow dogs?
We’re happy to say that most of the shops in the Hobby Lobby are dog-friendly! While city, location, or even manager preferences may mean that a particular store doesn’t allow dogs, generally Hobby Lobby stores welcome you and your dog. your shopping together.
How do you know if your local Hobby Lobby is pet-friendly? Check the store locator, then call the Hobby Lobby near you and ask. You’ll avoid any awkward moments when you first walk into the store—and you’ll be more confident carrying your store. Your dog will feel that confidence, turning the entire shopping experience into a more successful trip for both you and your dog.
Note: If the Hobby Lobby is located in an indoor mall, you may or may not bring your dog depending on the mall’s policy and whether the Hobby Lobby store has its own outside entrance or not.

OK, you’ve called and determined that your local Hobby Lobby store is dog-friendly. So what now?
You’ll want to take a few extra steps before your trip to make sure you and your dog have a great time.
What package?
Bring a fixed lanyard no longer than 6 feet. Leave a retractable leash at home; you want to keep your dog close to you and you don’t want to risk having it flip the screen or race against other shoppers.
Bring a mat for the stroller. If your dog sits in a stroller, bring a mat or blanket for your dog to sit on. Putting your dog in the stroller with nothing under its feet risks getting the dog’s paw stuck in the bottom of the cart. (I once had to help a woman get her dog’s paw out of a stroller by getting under the cart and pushing the purring dog’s paw through the car. Don’t risk this! )
Bring a poop bag. If there is an accident, be prepared to pick it up immediately and clean up the area.
Bring a few additional delicacies. Toss a few delicious treats in your bag or dog walking bag. Unless you’re planning on training at the store, you probably don’t need them – but if your dog becomes extremely distracted by a sudden noise, you can use these treats for exercise. Focus the dog’s attention back on you.
In the trip
Please stop before entering the store. Give your dog an extra chance to potty before entering the store, even if he’s gone before you leave the house.
Keep your dog by your side. When you stop to shop and review items, put your dog down if they’re not in the cart.
Can service dogs come to the hobby lobby?
The trained service dogs needed to assist you are allowed into any Hobby Lobby –even locations that are not pet friendly – according to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This only applies to service dogs; The ADA notes, “The job or task a dog has been trained to perform must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.”
If your dog is not a trained service dog, DO NOT try to misrepresent your dog as a service dog – you will be breaking the law if you do. Depending on where you live, misrepresent your dog as a service dog can be fined up to $1000.
