Devilman Gaiden spin-off manga begins


a new one Devil story, Devilman Gaiden: Ningen Senkistart serialization in Monthly Youth Magazine. It celebrates its 50th anniversary Devil manga, released in 1972. Fujihiko Hosono (Joe Crusher, Fake Library) is the writer and artist behind Devilman Gaiden. [Thanks, Comic Natalie!]

The story takes place in the Reiwa period of Japan. It is about a thug named Roppei, an acquaintance of Akira. When demons suddenly appear in Japan and attack, Akira assigns Roppei the task of protecting the Makimura family. For reference, Makimuras is Akira’s family friend. Roppei tries his best, but Akira has to intervene and help. That’s when Roppei found out that Akira was a Devilman.

Devil is an influential work from Go Nagai. Works that draw influence from it include Neon Genesis Mission and X. There have been many adaptations of it over the years. This includes Netflix Devilman Crybabyaired on 2018. Devil tells the story of Akira Fudo, who becomes the Demon of the same name when merging with a demon named Amon. The story is quite dark and violent, but also has strong anti-war themes.

Devilman Gaiden running on a monthly schedule in Monthly Youth Magazine. There is no word on whether it will be available in the west.
