PETROS ANANYAN (16-3-2, 7 KOs) interested in climbing the world title when he locked horns with Paulo Cesar Galdino.

  • Ananyan is a native of Armenia who has lived in a number of different places, including Russia, Brooklyn and Los Angeles. He started boxing at the age of 11 and set a reported amateur record of 220-60. He won the 2007 Moscow championship and was a bronze medalist in the prestigious Russian tournament. Most notably, he took second place at the 2014 AIBA (Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur) Championships. AIBA is the international governing body for international boxing.
  • He also worked in the Russian Army and graduated from university with a degree in Physical Education & Sports.
  • Turned pro in June 2015 with Valere Essomba Ngono’s fourth round TKO and was undefeated in his first 15 games, with a few draws among those. In only his fourth professional bout, Ananyan fought Vaghinak Tamrazyan ten rounds to win the Russian welterweight championship.
  • In October 2017, Ananyan claimed the IBF International Junior Welterweight crown with a sixth round technical decision against Luca Giacon, who came in with a 30-1 record. He was then defeated for the title in a ten-round decision to Steve Claggett nine months later, losing the verdict by one point on all three cards.
  • In his first game in the United States, in December 2019, Ananyan lost to Kareem Martin in 8 decisive innings.
  • However, he recovered with the most important moment of his career in February 2020, when he overcame Subriel Matias on his way to a decisive ten-round win. Matias was ranked second by IBF and third by WBC, and the win moved Ananyan to the IBF (#14) and WBC (#15) world rankings.
  • Another career highlight was the decisive tenth match at Barclays Center against Daniel Gonzalez as he won the WBA Continental Americas title at £140.
  • Ananyan’s last match was on January 22, the long-awaited rematch with Matias, who took revenge with a ninth-round TKO. Spectacular Matias, who scored his 18th KO in 18 wins, said “I want to get him to the hospital.” That’s exactly what happened as a result of the brutal encounter.
  • Throw hard whenever you can and push the matter aggressively…………. Have been eight or more rounds on ten different occasions …… .. Five days from turning 34 years old.
  • Working with top Russian coach Edward Goumachian, as well as legendary coach Freddie Roach, who will be available tonight.
  • Weight: 142 Pounds

PAULO CESAR GALDINO (12-5, 8 KOs) hoping to follow up on a recent upset win with another, this time against Petros Ananyan.

  • It’s certainly not a “lights on, big city” case for Galdino. He comes from a city even bigger than New York – Sao Paulo, Brazil, is the fourth largest city in the world.
  • Galdino, a southern player, was not off to a good start at the professional level, losing to Gabriel Bonfim in February 2016.
  • His losses have come to opponents with a 35-1-1 aggregate record. One of them was a match against Jackson Hurtado, who knocked him out in 2:45 of the first round to win the Brazilian championship at 140 pounds (November 2017). He won that belt with a goal in the fifth round against Osvaldo de Melo Costa in March 2019.
  • In August 2019, knocked out Felipe Lares in a round to win the South American ultralightweight title (140).
  • Lost in the auction for the WBC Latino title at £140 when he was stopped in eighth place by Juan Angel Gabriel Rosa, a southbound teammate who has taken numerous penalties.
  • Took the IBF Latino welterweight crown to Mirko Geografo last June but lost in the ten-decision round. That was the only time he went more than eight innings, which is what this bout was planned for.
  • Had his first U.S. game on May 7, and scored the winning goal in eight rounds against New York’s Daniel Gonzalez in a match that must be viewed as a disappointment. Gonzalez had previously lost majority decision-making power to Ananyan.
  • He is currently ranked by the record-keeping website Boxrec as the number 1 weight class in Brazil.
  • Likes to move in and out when possible, and has an effective right hook. But he can get hit and often makes the mistake of moving straight back.
  • After the win over Gonzalez, reporters asked him what he wanted to do next. He said he wanted to go to Times Square. Well, he made it.
  • Weight: 140 Pounds
