David Ortiz nearly dropped his $100,000 necklace in a London sewer
Sports FOX MLB the crew of Kevin Burkhardt and Hall of Fame Alex Rodríguez, David Ortiz and newcomer Derek Jeter enjoyed a series of dramatic action movies in London over the weekend, when Chicago Cubs‘ And Saint Louis Cardinal‘ two games set across the transatlantic over the weekend were a lot of fun. But off the pitch, there was a heart-pounding moment for one member of the team.
Ortiz nearly lost a valuable possession Friday – a $100,000 necklace – when it fell from his neck and into the drain while he was out to dinner with co-workers.
Ken Rosenthalwho was walking behind Ortiz when it happened, recall the events of Monday.
Rosenthal said: “’Big Papi’ uttered a loud profanity, detailing that Ortiz was about to get into the car that was taking them out to dinner. “I stared at the net, it seems to have been sealed for a period of time [The House of] Tudor dynasty.
“And while the drain dries up, I think Ortiz will never get that necklace back.”
But Rosenthal was almost immediately proven wrong.
While they were having dinner, the staff at the hotel where they were staying began breaking through the mesh door to get to Ortiz’s necklace. The mission was successful when a hotel employee successfully pulled the necklace.
Ortiz hadn’t even been served his first course when he discovered that the hotel staff had taken his precious necklace. The staff also sent over a video of the moment.
“Ortiz said the necklace fell off because he didn’t lock it properly, and he claims the hotel staff who found it was a fellow Dominican, which in his mind explained everything. story,” Rosenthal wrote.
The crew reminisced about the moment on Saturday’s pregnancy show, showing the video before chatting briefly about it.
“How much tip did you give that guy?” Kevin Burkhardt jokingly asked.
“Big Time Tip,” Ortiz says. “He just saved me $100k right there. I thought I lost it and then suddenly, [I hear] ‘Papi, this is your bling,’ and I said, ‘Dude! My man!'”
It proved an unforgettable experience for the entire FOX MLB team, including Rosenthal.
“I enjoy spending more than three days in London, meeting with reporters from several European countries [and] work on broadcasts,” Rosenthal wrote in her column.
“But the recall of Big Papi’s necklace – that’s what I will miss most.”
