Cruise activities are no longer allowed on board

Everything old is finally getting new, but some former cruise ship operations have little hope of returning. Whether you’re a more experienced passenger with nostalgia or a younger traveler appreciating anything classic, here are five yacht services that are unlikely to be restored.

Take a flight

Yep, you read it correctly. Until the 1990s, cruise lines allowed skewering from the back of their ships. The cruisers will be given real guns and members of the crew will throw clay birds into the air for them to shoot.

Leaving aside the safety implications associated with handing over guns to passengers, throwing any foreign object into the sea is strictly prohibited today.

What I suggest: If you want to hone your sharp shooting skills, check out your onboard videogame if available, or sign up for a round laser tagoffered on some Royal Caribbean‘sand Norwegian Cruise Linenewest ship of.

topless sunbathing

In the early years of their voyages, ships often had a dedicated area, usually on the top deck, for women. bask. Today, as family cruises have become more popular, the activity has been banned from ships catering to North Americans.

Because Europeans are generally less purist towards the human body, a number of ships based in Europe – including those in She And asteroid fleet — still allows busty passengers to avoid sunburn by sunbathing without a shirt. Virgin Trip also offers it on its ships, although the service has a large audience in North America.

What I suggest: Either book a topless sunbathing boat ride, or to avoid getting tanned, opt for the covered pool area, which most ships have.

smoke

This comes with a caveat. In spite of Smoking is no longer allowed in most public areas or on cabin balconies it is still allowed in at least one or two designated areas on modern cruise ships – cigar lounges, some open deck areas and often is a casino.

The prohibition of cigarettes, cigars and e-cigarettes or e-cigarettes in most parts of the aircraft is for the safety and protection of passengers’ comfort. Most cruisers don’t want their noses full of smoke when they’re dining or enjoying a show, but fire is also the biggest threat to cruise lines.

What I suggest: If you’re a cigar lover, head to your onboard cigar lounge (if available), which is also a great option for pre- or post-dinner drinks. If smoking is your thing, determine where you are allowed to light cigarettes on the plane.

Cruise to nowhere

Remember when you were short on time or money and could just drive to your nearest home port to start a short trip without calling? Not so long ago, “excursions to nowhere” were still active, providing excellent options for quick trips, especially from destinations not close to foreign ports.

In 2016, the US government cracked down and started to enforce it more strictly Passenger Train Service Actrequires cruise ships sailing from U.S. ports to call at least one foreign port before returning to the U.S.

What I suggest: If you want a super short trip, consider a ship based in Florida that offers fast, back and forth, two, three or four night trip to the Bahamas.

Golf without a net

Available on the top decks of many cruise ships, mini golf is a fun way for passengers to pick up clubs without polluting the ocean. CARNIVAL FLAVOR

On old cruises, sports passengers were allowed to throw golf balls from the back of the ship and plunge straight into the water. As for the skewer game, it is very wasteful and means a lot of trash is dumped into the sea.

As environmental activism continues to grow, cruise lines have tried to find other ways to be eco-friendly, including limiting free-range golf cart driving.

What I suggest: If you’re a thug who can’t go a day without practicing your swing, see if your ship has a rudder net on one of its top decks. If not, you can find a putting green or miniature golf course that will at least allow you to pick a club on your itinerary. Or, book an excursion to a destination — like Bermuda, the Caribbean, or the British Isles — known for its pristine racetracks so you can play around while in port.
