Covid vaccination without needles proven by Cambridge scientists

A trial has begun for a new needle-free Covid-19 vaccine to protect against future variants of the virus.

The vaccine, which is administered through an air stream, has been developed by Professor Jonathan Heeney of the University of Cambridge and chief executive officer of DIOSynVax.

As well as being helpful for people who are afraid of needles, vaccines can be freeze-dried, making storage easier.

Participants start participating in the test at the NIHR Clinical Research Facility Southampton on Tuesday.

Demonstrating the vaccine earlier this year, Dr. Rebecca Kinsley from DIOSynVax said: “There are no needles or holes. It uses a high-powered jet stream, allowing the vaccine to pass through the skin.”
