Combine $100 Camera with Arri Alexa
Lewis Potts picked the cheapest camera he could find on Amazon and tried it out with the Arri Alexa Mini LF.
Potts is an excellent cinematographer. Working within limits is the name of the game, and in this video he is trying to work with the biggest failure possible. The camera is terrible. I think it’s a great example for aspiring photographers and videographers. Dynamic range won’t matter if the lighting is done correctly and bells and whistles won’t make up for a lack of experience.
by Arri Alexa Mini LF has been a gem since it was released in 2019. It has the large format (LF) capabilities of its big brother, in a much smaller package. This is also the last Arri camera to come with a sensor they made back in 2010, now the Alexa 35 has a new ALEV 4 sensor inside.
So it’s funny to see this camera, out of all the cameras, pitted against a $100 piece of plastic. Potts is trying to raise the bar for what a $100 camera can do.
I was especially impressed by the scenes at the end. Making any indoor footage work with a cheap, automatic camera is tough. Bringing light in and taking away the light, Potts was able to get rid of those parts that a plastic camera would have trouble with.
