“Climate doomsday” is sweeping the Community of Climate Activists – Interested in that?

Essay by Eric Worrall

Climate activists seem to be losing control of the narrative, as their followers come to the very logical conclusion that no one will do anything significant to avert their imagined climate catastrophe. surname.

Why is climate ‘doomism’ so viral – and who is against it?

Climate ‘against’ believe that the world has lost the battle against global warming. That’s wrong – and while that sentiment is going viral online, there are others who are fighting the viral wave.

As he walked down the street in a Jurassic Park cap, Charles McBryde held up his smartphone, stared at the camera, and pressed the record button.

“Okay, TikTok, I need your help.”

Charles is 27 years old and lives in California. His weird TikTok videos about news, history and politics has earned him more than 150,000 followers.

In the video in question, shot in October 2021, he decides it’s time to confess.

“I am a climate guy,” he said. “Since about 2019, I have believed there is nothing more we can do to really reverse climate change on a global scale.”

Why is it not too late?

Climate scientist Dr. Friederike Otto, who has worked with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said: “I don’t think pretending that climate change will lead to extinction will lead to extinction. human mortality is a good thing.”

Dr Otto, senior lecturer in climate science at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and Environment said: “There is no denying that there are major changes globally and some of them are irreversible. reverse.

“That doesn’t mean the world will end – but we have to adapt, and we have to stop emissions.”

McBride’s video is available here. If someone might be bothered by digging out the doomer video, feel free to comment and I’ll post a link.

Even Australia’s newly elected government won’t do anything significant on emissions – because green solutions don’t work. They will make noise about shutting down coal, maybe closing a coal station or two, killing a few big companies, then panicking as electricity prices skyrocket, inward investment collapses and tax dollars run dry.

So the part about “but we have to adapt and we have to stop emitting. ” will not happen. In the context of their limited understanding, advocates are more rational than activists.

The only question is, how many people commit to “catch a bus” Soon?

I hope I’m not too vague with Jonestown at the top – the Jonestown mass murder/suicide is a grim lesson in what can happen when an apocalyptic deadly cult accepts the logical conclusion of its warped worldview. surname. I believe the same can happen with climate adapters, except on a much larger scale.

At any moment, a crazy but charismatic climatologist can publish the ultimate TikTok video and trigger a wave of imitations. I doubt it will be Charles McBryde – he seems too narcissistic to end his show early. But there are some sick people out there, and some of them have some of the latter.

We had clear evidence that young people are acting on their climate pessimismaccept life-destructive choices because they truly believe there is no hope.

Honestly, I would rather climate advocates go back to climate activism than continue embracing climateism – at least climate activists have a mission, they have something to live for. People can learn from their mistakes, if they still live to do so.
