“Let’s all be honest,” heavyweight contender Derek Chisora told the media during his final press conference before Saturday’s game against fellow heavyweight Kubrat Pulev. “I don’t know how many press conferences I’ve done before. It’s all the same talk to be honest with you. ‘Yes, I trained hard, I hit the bag harder, I was more energetic and I did everything harder’. How many fights have I had? 45 fights. It’s the same conversation. I just want to fight. We can all sit here and say, ‘I worked hard and I did this and did it’, it doesn’t really matter to me. All I wanted to do was put on my frames, put on my gloves, step out into the ring and fight. That’s all I wanted to do. I’m just looking forward to Saturday. “
This will be the second time Chisora and Pulev have met in the ring. The first time was in 2016, when Pulev went away with a decisive victory. Chisora clearly intended things to end differently the second time around. Pulev, however, failed to appear at the top of the table to allow pressure to come on him heading into the scheduled 12th round.
“I’m sure of myself,” he said. “I believe in myself. I don’t say that much. I speak the truth and I am honest. I only speak the truth. My team and I have had great preparation for this fight. We have trained. We trained hard in Bulgaria We were ready for the rematch against Derek Chisora I did this rematch because everyone needs a second chance That’s why I gave him the chance. for everyone, this is going to be a really interesting fight because there’s a lot of history behind this war. We have old history and now we’ll see who is better first. very interesting. He has his style; mine is a little bit different. On Saturday we’ll see who has changed. This is very important.”
Chisora-Pulev 2 will take place on Saturday at the O2 arena in London, which means Londoner Chisora will have the home field advantage, at least. The duel will be broadcast live on DAZN in the US starting at 2 p.m. ET.
“It’s going to be a great fight,” Pulev said. “One of us has to win. I hope the referees and referees are honest.”
