China bans Namewee’s viral pop song Fragile
A viral pop song aimed at making fun of Beijing and its supporters has been banned in mainland China.
The fragile mockery is known as “little pink” – a term used to refer to young nationalists who rush to defend the Chinese government on the internet.
The lyrics include words like “re-education camp,” “cotton,” “inseparable relationship,” and delve into sensitive issues from Xinjiang to Taiwan’s sovereignty.
The video went viral in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, despite the ban in mainland China.
The BBC spoke to the author of the song, Namewee.
