Chery’s new Jetour SUV concept is bigger than the LandCruiser


Chinese brand jet flying overnight unveiled its next off-road concept – which is bigger than a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series – ahead of this week’s Shanghai auto show.

The T-3 concept is built on the Kunlun platform that supports electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) and long-range electric vehicles (EREVs) in both SUV and ute body styles.

Powertrain details have yet to be detailed, although Jetour – part of Chery – has previously announced that its T lineup will be available with four- and six-cylinder petrol engines, as well as PHEV and EV options.

Chinese media reports that there will be a four-motor four-wheel drive system, with each engine generating 250kW and 400Nm and total system power reaching 969kW. The 0-100km/h time is reported to be just three seconds.

According to the report, the extended range electric vehicle will only use the motor to power the battery when it runs out of power, with a total range of 1,400 km.

Chery opens Jetour in China in January 2018, with the first model being the X70 seven-seat SUV.

Jetour says it sold about 660,000 vehicles in its first five years across China, the Middle East, Central and South America and Africa.
