The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max is the latest product from the Chinese brand to achieve a full 5-star rating in the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), alongside its stablemates Tiggo 7 Pro (crash test video below) and Omoda 5 in achieving a five-star rating in the safety rating.
In Malaysia, Chery Tiggo 8 Pro was launched in July 2023 with Segment B Omoda 5 as part of the brand’s re-entry into the Malaysian market.
ANCAP ratings for the Tiggo 8 Pro Max apply to all variants of the SUV, with the three-row SUV being scored against its stablemate, the Tiggo 7 Pro, with impact tests Pedestrian supplements and ANCAP have been provided with technical information to show that the test results of the Tiggo 7 Pro also apply to the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, according to the agency.
In this assessment, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max scored 88% in the adult protection category, 87% in the child protection category, 79% in the vulnerable road user protection category and 86% in the Safety support system. However, the third row of seats in the vehicle does not have an overhead anchor and therefore a child seat should not be installed in the third row.
The adult protection report for the Tiggo 8 Pro Max in the frontal crash test showed a score of 5.49 out of 8, while the frontal full-width test showed a score of 7.48 out of 8 . the oblique pole test showed 4.84 points out of six and whiplash protection scored 3.52 points out of four, while the side impact and remote impact tests scored a full six respectively point and four point.
The ability to protect children in the front dynamic test scored 15.70/16 points and the side dynamic test scored 7.62/8 points. The installation of the restraint system scored 11.43 points out of 12 points, while the vehicle’s safety features scored 8/13 points.
In terms of vulnerable user protection, the car scored 12.72 points from 18 for head protection, 1.50 points from 4.5 points for pelvic protection, 4.50 points from 4.5 points for femur protection, 8.48 points from nine points for knee and tibia protection, 5.65 from seven points for AEB (forward) pedestrian, one of two points for AEB (backward) pedestrian ), 7.91 points out of nine for AEB (cyclists), 5.54 from six points for AEB (motorcycles) and 3.00 points out of three for lane assist system (motorcycles).
In the safety assistance system, Tiggo 8 Pro Max scored full points for seat belt reminder, 1.65 points from two driver monitoring points, 2.45 points from three points for speed assist system, 3.60 points from four points for vehicle-to-vehicle AEB/AES, 3.08 points from four points for intersection and crossing AEB/AES, 0.75 points from one point for frontal and three-point AEB/AES Complete lane assist system.
