Chery Omoda 5 rear axle boxed – ‘I am satisfied with the condition of the car’, says customer
According to a customer whose vehicle malfunctioned and this case went viral, the Chery Omoda 5 rear axle case has been closed.
“I would like to share that Chery Malaysia and I have resolved the incident and my complaint. I have inspected the vehicle and am satisfied with its condition. I am pleased that Chery Auto Malaysia provided prompt and helpful support in resolving the issue responsibly and amicably. Thank you everyone for your interest; The problem is now over,” customer Stephanie posted on Facebook.
Following the viral episode in late April, Chery said 60 Omoda 5s in Malaysia were identified as being using the affected rear axle, manufactured on August 15, 2023. The company then decided cast a wider net and recall of vehicles with parts manufactured between August 14 and 17, a total of 600 units.
The root cause of the problem was determined to be miscalibration of welding equipment at a supplier. “After a comprehensive investigation, the supplier reported that the problem was due to a facility upgrade, in which the worn welding head of the automatic welding machine was replaced with a new welding head. Replacing the welding head with a new one leads to miscalibration of the device,” Chery Auto Malaysia VP Lee Wen Hsiang explained in May.
All 600 customers have been contacted and as of May 24, Chery completed 92% of the inspectionSo up to now, the recall, replacement and inspection have almost ended.
