14-year-old Carter Thompson has won a place in Dorna’s Road to MotoGP.
Carter successfully made it through a fiercely competitive process at the Autodromo di Modena in Italy to be selected for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2023.
Three days of intense action at the Selection Event, attended by 115 young riders from 29 countries, resulted in eight riders being invited to the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2023.
This is the first time the Red Bull Rookie Selection Event has been held in Modena and the first time in three years that the Selection Event has been held as it cannot be held in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid.
Carter was the only Australian to make it through after compatriots Angus Grenfell, Jayden Martin, Archie McDonald, Samuel Pezzetta and Marianos Nikolis were gradually dropped from the selection process as the battle for a spot in the Red Bull Rookies Cup is started.
After winning the bLU Oceania Junior Cup 2019 and then becoming the 2020 R3 Cup champion in Australia, Carter got his start in the Asian Talent Cup at the age of 11, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused a major hiatus and entire season. cancel.
However, despite his young years, Carter has accumulated a lot of experience competing and coaching abroad.
Carter competed in this year’s Asian Talent Cup but ran into some bad luck, however, he finished sixth in his most recent ATC competition at Indonesia’s Mandalika Circuit.
Thompson will next race at Motegi later this month, where the Asia Talent Cup plays a supporting role in MotoGP. ATC then proceeded to Thailand, Malaysia before returning to Indonesia for the final round with World Superbike at Mandalika.
