Carl Frampton knows a thing or two about featherweight and has decided to pick this weekend’s division’s WBA title fight between Leigh Wood and Michael Conlan.
Wood will defend his first title at home against a sold-out crowd at Nottingham Arena on Saturday night. Conlan won’t shy away from supporting himself with a large following from Belfast expected to show up tonight to support challenger as well as fellow Northern Ireland fellow Caoimhin Agyarko. Ireland’s Gary Cully, who faces the old Miguel Vazquez, won’t shy away from defenders either.
Frampton, one of Ireland’s greatest boxers and now a respected professional, has won world titles in super bantamweight and featherweight and is leaning his countryman to beat Wood in about 12 rounds on Saturday.
“As it got closer, I leaned more towards Mick and had a stronger feeling that he was going to win the fight,” Frampton to Boxing Social’s Ryan Elliott while in London promoting BT Sport’s 5G augmented reality boxing experience.
“While Leigh Wood is definitely the fighter in the fight, Mick has an unbelievable skill set. Really hard to grasp.
Frampton commented on Conlan’s most recent win over TJ Doheny, praising the undefeated star for skills he had never witnessed.
“He’s doing a lot of good stuff on the inside, new things that I’ve never seen him do before. The fighter inside is really smart now too. But I don’t think he needs to be there too much in this fight. I think they’ll dig that into him. I think Adam Booth, his dad, his brother Jamie will tolerate it on him.
“He doesn’t have to be quiet or lie still on the rope because he can get nailed even though he has a very good chin. The more I think about it, the more I see it as a total point decision for Mick. ”
