Canterbury continues to encourage beginners to meet

Canterbury Park race officials announced their intention on February 7 to continue an incentive program that will reward owners of Purebred dogs who are ready to run when the race begins. A $700 reward will be paid to the owner of any purebred that enter the race overnight from May 27 to June 11. This reward is in addition to any funds earned in the wallet and not limited to a single payment during that period.

Bonuses are made in partnership with the Minnesota HBPA, the organization that represents racehorse owners, their trainers, and employees. A travel loan program will again be offered to assist with the upfront cost of transporting the stables to Shakopee Racecourse, Minn. Each of these programs has been offered in the last two races.

Canterbury Park CEO Randy Sampson said: “The Beginners Incentive Program has achieved its goal, allowing us to start the past two seasons with a stable average school size of the same size. Time to reward owners who have sent horses ready to participate in the race”. “I look forward to another positive start to the meeting as we offer both grass and dirt racing with large, competitive fields and great betting opportunities.”

Canterbury Park will also continue to pay guaranteed purses throughout the entire season ranked by each race’s purse value. Everyone starting in all races will be guaranteed the following minimum payouts for the purpose of providing pocket money to cover most of the cost of starting a horse.
