Canon has revealed a new full-frame mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS R8. Low-end cameras have a lot in common with more expensive cameras Canon EOS R6 Mark II, which includes the same 24-megapixel sensor, DIGIC X processor, Dual Pixel AF, and AI-based object recognition. Unlike the R6 II, there is no in-body image stabilization.
Interestingly, the EOS R8 doesn’t have a fully mechanical shutter, a trick also used in sony a7C: The first stage is electronic, while only the second stage is mechanical. This reduces costs, but hinders the camera’s ability to capture fast action: the R8 is capable of continuous shooting at a modest 6fps with the first-curtain electronic shutter, compared to 12. fps with the fully mechanical shutter of the R6 Mark II. With a fully electronic shutter, the R8 can shoot at up to 40 fps continuous as well as 30 fps continuous shooting for RAW images with a half-second pre-buffer.
On the video front, impressively, the R8 borrows the R6 Mark II’s headline specs: oversampled full-width 4K video from 6K recording at up to 60p, as well as the ability to record 10-bit footage 4:2:2 in C- Diary 3. Besides the camera body, Canon will be releasing two new lenses. The RF-S series of lenses, optimized for smaller APS-C sensor sizes, expands with the Canon RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM lens. This is a telephoto zoom lens, offering coverage equivalent to that of an 88–336mm lens on a full-frame camera. The lens opens up opportunities for photography and movie shooting from a distance, with 4.5 stops optical image stabilization and close-focusing that can fill the frame with a subject measuring approximately 2×3 inches (at settings). set 210mm zoom and min focus distance). The Canon RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is a new compact standard zoom lens for full-frame EOS R-series cameras.
