Canon launches EOS R7 32.5MP APS-C mirrorless camera

Canon has announced its first two RF mount camera bodies with cropped sensors: EOS R7boasts a 32.5MP APS-C sensor and EOS R10, which has a 24MP APS-C sensor. New cameras complement existing full-frame lineup — 20MP EOS R6 and 45MP EOS R5 as EOS R3Premium model for quick action.

The EOS R7 can shoot continuously at up to 15 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter. It can also shoot UHD 4K video at up to 30p as well as 4K/60p using full sensor width (but with line skipping) and Full HD at 120p. You can record 10-bit video in either C-Log 3 or HDR PQ.

There’s also up to seven-stop image stabilization and Dual Pixel AF, and the camera borrows the R3’s subject recognition capabilities, including tracking animals, people, and vehicles. The R7’s viewfinder is a modest 2.36M-dot OLED, while the fully articulating rear panel houses a 3-inch 1.62M-dot touchscreen. There are two UHS-II SD card slots, a USB-C port, a micro HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 3.5mm microphone jack. The LP-E6NH battery – the same one used by the R5 and R6 – gives 660 shots (CIPA rating) per charge via the EVF.

The EOS R7 will retail for $1,500 body only, but you’ll have to wait until “late 2022” before the camera hits shelves.
