More details on the Food and Drug Administration’s canned coffee recall

On Thursday, June 20, the FDA announced a recall of canned coffee products manufactured by Snapchill LLC. The association’s announcement states that the company initially announced the recall on Monday, June 20.

Furthermore, the FDA noted that the recall was issued due to Snapchill’s current manufacturing process, which “may result in the growth and production of a deadly toxin, botulinum toxin, in low-acid canned foods.”

The notice asserts that “Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning,” can lead to “general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and difficulty speaking or swallowing.” Additionally, botulism is said to cause “difficulty breathing, other muscle weakness” and even constipation.

Furthermore, symptoms can begin within six hours to two weeks after consuming the poison.

These are the products that are potentially affected

According to the FDA report, Snapchill’s canned coffee products were distributed nationwide. They were reportedly sold through coffee roasters, retail stores, and Snapchill’s online store.

Food & Wine reports that the total number of potentially affected products is nearly 300. You can find a full list of potentially affected canned coffee products and brands here.

Some brands on the list include Bold Bean, Farmhouse and Red Rooster.

Additionally, the FDA added that potentially affected products can be identified by the words “Snapchill Coffee” or “Manufactured and distributed by Snapchill LLC” located near the nutrition label.

What should consumers do?

According to the FDA, “to date no illnesses have been reported.” However, the association urges customers with potentially affected products to “destroy the product or return the product to Snapchill or the place of purchase for a refund.”

The association confirmed that Snapchill would provide consumers with a full refund “with appropriate proof of purchase including images of the product prior to destruction”.

Additionally, customers should contact Snapchill via email at [email protected]. Consumers can call the company Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT, at (920) 632-6018.
