Canada’s Gift to Putin – Are you enjoying it?

Ross McKitrick: 2030 Emissions Plan: Canada’s Gift to Putin – Do You Care?

From the Financial Post Office

The sad fact that the federal government doesn’t care about their climate plans will cost the people.

You might think that the Russo-Ukrainian War would convince the Trudeau government to put its climate change plans on hold. The Europeans were suddenly desperate to find other sources of energy so they could cut back on imports from Russia. Unfortunately, we cannot help them because we have embraced the no-build-anywhere school of economic development. But the United States can, by using its liquefied natural gas (LNG) export infrastructure. That means the US has to import more to make up for what it diverts away from its domestic market. Where will they find it? For us, among other places. That’s what we usually call an opportunity.

No more. Instead, Ottawa has just released a 271-page Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP) calling for our oil and gas industry to cut emissions by 31% from 2005 levels over the next eight years, 42% less than that. with the current level. It also wants the field to be “net-zero” by 2050. Given current technological limits on carbon capture and other buzzwords, that means decommissioning altogether or using methods Production methods cause producers to push prices out of world markets – thus leaving an obvious area for Russia to expand its dominance in the world energy market in the coming years. Global emissions won’t decline mind you; people will only get their energy from dictators while democracies like Canada get rid of the market.
