BYD Seal removed, hopeful owners now realize AWD is not 4WD

If you fancy a spot of driving on the beach, an Isuzu D-Max or Toyota LandCruiser seems like a reasonable choice.

BYD seal? Not much.

Although the drive system is transmitted to all four wheels in the highest-end Performance version, the ground clearance is only 120mm and there is no low-speed gearbox.

That didn’t stop this Seal driver from venturing to City Beach in Western Australia, with a photo and video shared by Bell Tower Times On Facebook.

The photo shows the car at night and the video shows it during the day, suggesting there was a long gap between the stranded electric sedan and the subsequent rescue operation.

In the image shared on Facebook, we can also see a Hyundai i30 Sedan stuck in the sand, although it is unclear what happened.

The owner of BYD Seal responded on one of the Facebook posts with the following explanation:

They said: “This is my car and I want to explain why it is in that position.”

“At first, we just wanted to take a few photos but we didn’t expect the front of the car to get stuck. Because this vehicle only has a tow hook in the front, we had no choice but to turn around.

“However, it is clear that we should have called for assistance as soon as we realized we could not move it.

“We tried to move it all night.”

This is not the first time we have witnessed a driver driving an improper vehicle into the sand and getting stuck. Audi RS5 bogged down on the way to Bribie Island in Queensland this early year.
