Buick, is beaten in China that it is, decided to reveal a few concept car in Guangzhou Auto Show. One is the GL8 Flagship Concept, and the other is the Smart Pod Concept.
Since a fact small truck Much more interesting than any “Smart Pod”, we will start with the Flagship GL8 Concept. Exterior is meant to be luxurious and look “dynamic” with a combination of colour, glass roof, bird-shaped headlights and highly sculpted bodywork. There’s hardly a part on the car that doesn’t make a statement, and the highlights will continue when you open the door.
It is immediately clear that this pickup truck is not a family one, as it has only four seats. That said, everyone in those four seats is guaranteed to be comfortable. Buick says they’re using “zero-gravity” relaxation chairs inside, and that the entire cabin is inspired by China’s mountain and water landscapes. That might account for the multicolored floor, since the blue part looks like water at the base of a mountain, surrounded by a beach.
Features include a tea tray, a 30-inch driver display, a touchscreen on the steering wheel, a full-width windshield display and a new audio system with speakers in the headrests. Buick says all car functions can also be controlled by voice. Aside from the obvious futuristic touches, this Buick pickup truck is simply gorgeous. The combination of yellow, blue and cream colors and different materials used throughout looks like top class luxury. We’d love to see some attention to detail and luxury trickle down to some of Buick’s production cars.
Smart Pod concept
Unlike the GL8, the Smart Pod is designed in the US. It uses the Ultium power platform and what Buick calls a VIP electrical architecture. The exterior design is basically what Buick has called it – a shell. Its lights use micro-LED technology to make them as sleek as possible.
On the inside, Buick has designed the Pod to be as spacious and airy as possible. It has a glass roof, a dedicated sleeping seat that can be fully reclined, and a modular seating arrangement. Other features include deployable panels, noise cancellation technology, an air filtration system, and a 50-inch LED display. It’s powered by an AI assistant that uses voice commands, eye-tracking technology, integration with your mobile device, and machine learning to adapt to the user. Buick says you can use it as a remote office if you want.
However, we are far from fully autonomous groups, so let’s go ahead and put this in the category of things to worry about “the future”.
